SIOMMMS Fellow Day, 2 December 2026

SIOMMMS is pleased to invite applications for the 2026 SIOMMMS Fellow Day, this year organized with ECTS Academy, that will be held in Pompeii, Italy on 2 December 2026, before the XXVI SIOMMMS National Congress (Naples, Italy, 3-5 December 2026).

Pompeii offers a unique setting where scientific exchange meets an extraordinary historical and cultural heritage. Participants will have the opportunity to experience one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites while engaging with peers and mentors in an inspiring and informal environment.
The Fellow Day will be followed by the SIOMMMS National Congress in Naples, one of Italy’s most vibrant cities, renowned for its rich history, distinctive cultural identity, and spectacular setting on the Bay of Naples. Together, Pompeii and Naples will provide a memorable backdrop for scientific exchange, networking, and collaboration.

The workshop is designed to bring together early-career researchers from around the world working in the field of bone and mineral research, to present and discuss their research, exchange ideas, and network.
One senior invited speaker will deliver a lecture, while several experienced mentors will be present throughout the event to interact with attendees, provide guidance, and foster scientific discussion and mentorship.

PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career investigators from around the world are encouraged to submit an abstract. Selected applicants will be invited to present their work in English.
Up to 10 candidates will be selected will be selected based on the originality and scientific quality of the abstract, while ensuring a balanced representation of basic and clinical research.

The small-group format will provide selected participants with a unique opportunity for in-depth scientific discussion, personalized feedback from established investigators, and networking with peers at a similar career stage

What does SIOMMMS offer?

  • Accommodation for two hotel nights (2 December in Pompeii and 3 December 2026 in Naples)
  • Registration fee for the National Congress
  • Networking Dinner on 2 December 2026 (Pompeii) and Lunch on 3 December 2026 (Naples)
  • Young Researchers Dinner on 3 December 2026 (Naples)

Eligibility

  • Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria: be currently enrolled in a PhD program; be within 7 years of PhD completion; or be under 35 years of age at the application deadline
  • The abstract, in English, must present original, unpublished work. Project ideas will also be welcome
  • The applicant must be the first and presenting author of the abstract
  • Abstracts submitted for the general congress may also be submitted to the Fellow Day program

  • Abstract title length: max. 25 words
  • Abstract body length: max. 300 words including numbers and symbols. One table and one figure may be included

Deadline

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2026.

Other important information

  • The official language of the SIOMMMS Fellow Day will be English.
  • Selected candidates will present and discuss their research projects with the mentors during the Fellow Day and will also be given a dedicated opportunity to showcase their work during the Plenary Poster Session at the Congress on December 3, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
  • The SIOMMMS National Congress will be held in Italian, but selected participants will have the opportunity to follow the session with live Italian-English translation and attend the international sessions.
